My name is Al and for the past seven years, I have been working as an assistant professor for the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) in the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU).
In nearly the same span of time, I have also acted as an IT manager, and am now currently carry the official title of Director for UPOU’s ICT Development Office. From 2007 to 2014, I chaired the Diploma in Computer Science program. I was reassigned to the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies program immediately afterwards and that is where I am now.
I consider myself as a generalist deeply interested in bridging ecology, multimedia, information and communication technology and community building. So far, I have earned degrees in in Agriculture, Computer Science and Environmental Science at UP Los Baños. This was a long time to be a full-time student. Thankfully, I took on odd things to do here and there, to lessen the time wasted and earn a little money. The longest connection I maintained was with PinoyPC, a Filipino online community of technology enthusiasts. In addition to being a member and administrator in the forums, I served as a writer and editor of online articles, back when we were active at it.
When work is out of the way, I moonlight as an amateur photographer, a musician, and yes, even a new media artist. I have been a computer gamer since I was six years old. While my time with high school and college athletics are long behind me, I remain fascinated with sports.
While I have never had any inclination to get into photography professionally, I have always carried a significant amount of passion for it since he was 12 years old, despite having to go through a slow and long learning process. Traveling in recent years, as well as the birth of my son have been a boon in honing my craft, the results of which you will see trickling into this course from time to time.
My curriculum vitae, as well as information on my other professional and personal projects and blog can be found in my website.
